New NYU Login (Single Sign-On)

As part of NYU’s efforts to strengthen security and streamline access across our global community, NYU IT launched a new NYU Login (Single Sign-On) experience for the entire NYU community (students, faculty, administrators, and alumni).

The new NYU Login experience is part of a broader Identity and Access Management (IAM) program designed to fortify NYU’s digital infrastructure against evolving security threats, improve system maintenance and resilience capabilities, and provide a solid platform for simplified integration of identities across NYU.

Accessing all NYU online services that use Single Sign-On (NYUHome, NYU Email, etc.) now involves a new multi-step login process that strengthens your account security. First enter your NYU NetID followed by @nyu.edu (e.g., abc123@nyu.edu), then your password on a second page, and lastly, if prompted, select Approve with MFA (Duo) to verify your identity via NYU Multi-Factor Authentication, powered by Duo. Furthermore, the browser address now begins with a new Microsoft URL, login.microsoftonline.com. Please refer to the New NYU Login (SSO) User Guide for details.

The new NYU Login experience launched the evening (ET) of Thursday, October 23, 2025.

All members of the NYU community including NYU students, faculty, administrators, and alumni.

• Students, Faculty, Administrators, and Alumni: We recommend reviewing the New NYU Login (SSO) User Guide to familiarize yourself with everything that changed  and update any saved browser autofill settings. See the “I use a password manager…” FAQ below for details.
• School/Unit Content Managers, Communicators, and Service Owners: All of your websites, documents, training materials, and communications that mention the NYU Login process should now reflect the new NetID@nyu.edu username and multi-step login process. Please refer to the New NYU Login (SSO) User Guide or the Communications Tool Kit that has been shared with those who manage NYU content. If you haven’t received the Communications Tool Kit, email it-news@nyu.edu to request a copy.

No. Your current NYU Single Sign-On (SSO) password and the annual password reset process were not impacted and you do not need to reset your password as part of this change. For more information on the standard annual password reset process, visit Changing your NetID password.

No, existing browser bookmarks, shortcuts, and other links to NYUHome (home.nyu.edu) and other NYU services will continue working without requiring any updates. However, please remember that once you arrive at the NYU Login page, the URL in your browser address bar now begins with a Microsoft URL, login.microsoftonline.com, instead of the previous NYU URLs, shibboleth.nyu.edu or auth.nyu.edu.

The NYU Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) service, powered by Duo, remains unchanged and continues to confirm your identity and help prevent hackers from gaining access to your personal information and NYU’s network. Following the entry of your NetID@nyu.edu username and password, if MFA authentication is required, you will be prompted on the third login page to select “Approve with MFA (Duo)” to verify your identity.

Yes, if you use a password manager to autofill your username and password on the NYU Login page, it will need to be updated. In the new NYU Login, enter your NYU NetID followed by @nyu.edu (e.g., abc123@nyu.edu)—not just your NetID—and your password, as described above. Your password manager will likely prompt you to save your new credentials so it can autofill them for your future logins.

At the NYU Login page, select Can’t access your account if you need to activate your NetID, if you forgot your NetID, or if you forgot or need to reset your password. If you continue to require assistance, contact the NYU IT Service Desk.
