Project Overview

As part of NYU’s efforts to strengthen security and streamline access across our global community, NYU IT launched a new NYU Login (Single Sign-On) experience for the NYU community on October 23, 2025.

The new NYU Login is the first phase of a broader Identity and Access Management (IAM) Modernization program, designed to fortify NYU’s digital infrastructure against evolving security threats, improve system maintenance and resilience capabilities, and provide a solid platform for simplified integration of identities across NYU.

What changed on October 23, 2025?

Accessing NYUHome, NYU Email, or any NYU online service that uses NYU Single Sign-On now involves a multi-step login process.

First login screen, showing field to enter your NetID followed by @nyu.edu (e.g., abc123@nyu.edu)

Step 1

On the first NYU Login page, enter your NYU NetID followed by @nyu.edu (e.g., abc123@nyu.edu). This differs from the old process, which only required your NetID.

Step 2

After entering your username, you will be redirected to a second NYU Login page to enter your current NYU Single Sign-On password. No password reset is required as part of this change.

Third Login screen. Select "Approve with MFA (Duo)" button under "Verify your identity" header to complete this step.

Step 3

If required, a third NYU Login page will prompt you to verify your identity and the authenticity of your login attempt via NYU Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), powered by Duo. Select Approve with MFA (Duo), and you will be redirected to the Duo authentication process.

Important Security Note: Always verify the authenticity of the NYU Login by reviewing the URL in your browser’s address bar. The new NYU Login URL will begin with login.microsoftonline.com. This is a change from the previous URLs auth.nyu.edu or shibboleth.nyu.edu. Checking this URL is vital to protect your data. See How to Confirm the Security of the NYU Login Page Before You Log In for details.

What is not changing?

NYU Multi-Factor Authentication (Duo), your NYU Single Sign-On (SSO) password, and the NYU Start Page were not impacted by the October 23, 2025 change.

Do I need to update any settings or content I manage?

  • Students, Faculty, Administrators, and Alumni: We recommend reviewing the New NYU Login (SSO) User Guide to familiarize yourself with everything that changed  and update any saved browser autofill settings. See the “I use a password manager…” FAQ below for details.
  • School/Unit Content Managers, Communicators, and Service Owners: All of your websites, documents, training materials, and communications that mention the NYU Login process should now reflect the new NetID@nyu.edu username and multi-step login process. Please refer to the New NYU Login (SSO) User Guide or the Communications Tool Kit that has been shared with those who manage NYU content. If you haven’t received the Communications Tool Kit, email it-news@nyu.edu to request a copy.
